Councilor Paige Winfrey made a statement on August 21st, 2025 against further delays in appointing volunteers to the vacant council positions. SCM is aware that certain members of the community and "minor local news organizations" heavily criticized Winfrey's statement for inaccuracies in her interpretation of Oregon public meeting law. In SCM's opinion, Councilor Winfrey was trying to make a larger point that continuing delays were unjustified. We commend her courage and independence for being the only Council member to speak out against Mayor Richardson's continued delays.
